Mulled Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 240ml Water

  • 200g Sugar

  • 1 Orange peel

  • 8 Cloves

  • 2 Star Anise flowers

  • 1 Cinnamon stick

  • ½ Nutmeg (chopped)

Equipment

  • Saucepan

  • Sieve

  • Cheesecloth

  • Sterilised bottle

Method

  • Heat water and sugar in a saucepan until fully dissolved

  • Add the orange peel and spices to the solution and stir

  • Bring to just below the boil and simmer gently for 15 minutes

  • Remove from the heat and allow to cool before straining through a cheesecloth lined sieve into a sterile bottle

  • Can be store up to 1 month at fridge temperature
